Nancy Uelmen is currently Music Director and singer/songwriter for the Gen Verde International Performing Arts Group of the Focolare Movement. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Major in English, Minor in Music) from Loyola Marymount University (1988) and her Master of Arts in English from SUNY New Paltz (New York) before moving in 1990 to Loppiano, the Focolare Movement’s international town near Florence, Italy. There she completed a two-year course in theological and social studies at the Istituto Mystici Corporis. In 1992 she joined Gen Verde as a singer and piano/keyboard player and member of the group’s songwriting team. Shortly afterwards she completed a course in Composing, Musical Arrangement and Programming at the Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale of the Turin Philharmonic in Saluzzo, Italy (1994-95).  Ms. Uelmen’s work with Gen Verde has given her the opportunity to perform in hundreds of live concerts during tours throughout Europe, various countries in Asia, and in Brazil. Since 1993, Ms. Uelmen has contributed as a songwriter and musician during the production of 15 Gen Verde albums. As Music Director since 2011, Ms. Uelmen has coordinated the production of the group’s most recent albums in this field: From the Inside Outside (due for release October 2018); On the Other Side (2015) and Music Made to Be Played (2014). Gen Verde also produces liturgical music. Ms. Uelmen has been part of the composing team for four different albums (for SATB choir). The most recent editions have been versions in Spanish and English of the 2011 album Il mistero pasquale: Vive hoy, vive aquí and He’s Alive (2017).
