This monograph describes the constructions of the vector wave functions pertaining to rectangular, cylindrical, spherical and other coordinate systems. It presents the normal and abnormal vector wave functions and proves the completeness of the normal ones. As applications, some boundary-value problems have been solved by using different kinds of vector wave functions. This book can be used not only as a reference but also as material for graduate students, researchers and engineers in the fields of microwaves, optics, physics and applied mathematics.Zhou Xue-Song was born in An-Hui Province, China, on January 3, 1938. He graduated from the Department of Physics and Department of Electronics Engineering, Fu-Dan University, in 1961. He was an Assistant, Lecturer and Associate Professor at the East China Normal University from 1961 to 1986; a Senior Engineer of Shangai Research Institute of Microwave Tecnology from 1986 till now. During the period 1989-1991, he worked as a Visiting Professor at Institute of Applied Physics, University of Bern, Switzerland, and Department of Electronics Engineering, Tor Vergata University, Rome, Italy. His main research activities concern frequency — and time — domain propagation, scattering and radiation from complex structures, microwave and millimeter-wave remote sensing, radar system engineering and computational electromagnetics.
