The work focuses on lean management practices in a healthcare setting. French hospitals, as well as those of other western countries, are facing a strong pressure to improve their performance. One of the recent attempts to improve healthcare organizational performances is the use of lean tools and thinking. The case study, through an activity system analysis (Engeström, 1987), provides earlier insights about the implementation of lean and suggestions to managers are given in order to manage the introduction of lean.
