Dr. Ronaldo Bellazzini holds an Italian degree of Laurea in Physics from 1975. In 1997 he was appointed the Director of Technology Research, Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (National Institute of Nuclear Physics) also known as INFN. From 1980 to 1997 he was a Physics Researcher at the University of Pisa, Italy.
He is the coordinator and principal investigator of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics Italian team on Fermi. He has over 30 years experience in instrumentation for particle physics and astrophysics. He has led the critical Italian contribution to the design, construction and testing of the Silicon Tracker of the Large Area Telescope on board Fermi.
The project involved the integration, assembly and test of more than 11,000 silicon sensors and around 1,000,000 electronics channels. He has led also the development of new instrumentation for X-ray polarimetry, opening up a new window on the X-ray Universe.
Dr. Bellazzini has authored or co-authored over 125 papers in refereed journals, books or conference proceedings. Of these, more than 20 have concerned the development and testing of the Fermi instruments.
