Wojciech Ponikiewski, born in 1963 in Rabat (Marocco).
Studied economics at the universities in Poland, France and Belgium.
Since 1990, after the collapse of communist regime in Poland, joined Polish Foreign Service.
1990-1995- represented Poland in the Second Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York (economic and environmental issues).
1995-1997- seconded to the United Nations Environment Programme (New York and Nairobi).
1997-2001- Head of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the UN in Poland’s MFA. Chief negotiator of the Kyoto Protocol. Responsible for setting Polish development assistance system.
2001-2007- Deputy chief of the Polish Embassy in Rome, Italy. Head of the Political Section.
2008-2009- Head of the Foreign Economic Policy Department, MFA, Warsaw.
2009-2010- Head of American Department, MFA, Warsaw.
Since October 2010 – Ambassador to Italy, Malta and San Marino
