Vincenzo Ferrara graduated in Electronic Engineering “cum laude” at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He worked the “ITP Elettronica”, engineering company, as an engineer at first and then at the ENEL S.p.A. He entered the University of Rome “La Sapienza” as an Assistant Professor in 1989. Since November 2001 he has been an Associate Professor at the same University of Rome “La Sapienza”, where is in charge of the courses: “Electronics I”, “Electronics for the environment”, “Terrestrial and satellite radio-technique”. He is lecturer in the Master “Engineering of the Emergency” University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He is member of the Steering Committee of “REmote Sensing Applications and Methodologies (RESAM) Laboratory” – Rome, Faculty of Engineering. He has participated in scientific and organizing committees of several conferences “IEEE/ISPRS Joint Workshop on Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas” (2001); “RISK Analysis” (from 2002 at 2004); “Sustainable Planning & Development” (since 2003); “Brownfield” (since 2006), “Disaster Management” (since 2009). He is member of the Editorial Board of the “International Journal of Sustainable Development and Planning” – WIT Press. Since 2013 he is leader of Project "Advanced application of GPR to the localization and vital signs detection of buried and trapped people" of European Program COST ACTION TU1208.He did technical activity in research programmes founded by the European Commission, as: ESPRIT Profelicita; Human Capital and Mobility (Network CHRX-CT93 -0206); ORCHIS (Optical Research of Chiral Systems) TMR European Network. His scientific interests focus on: a) Electronic systems for the environment; b) RF design; c) liquid crystals (LC); d) porous silicon. Issues covered under the liquid crystals are: display technology; models of analysis; simulation tools; driver circuits for LC displays. The issues on porous silicon are: waveguides; Heteroepitaxy Multi-Layers. Issues covered under the electronic systems for the environment are: planning, design and management of RF broadcast systems; data-base georeferred of territorial events for sw simulations; physical models; interoperability of management and monitoring systems; sustainable planning and development; networks of wireless sensors; localization and the navigation by satellite. For a project of the Galileo Test-Range , he developed DGPS algorithms to use on local area (LAD). Among the themes developed on the Radio Frequency : design mixer for GPS receivers, mounted on LEO satellites; power amplifiers (HPA) at high efficiency.
